Design / Covalent 1.0

As Head of Design at Covalent, I led the company through two rebrands, evolving the brand to align with its growth and vision. I also developed a comprehensive design system that ensured consistency while maintaining flexibility across various use cases.
I joined Covalent at a time when the company had a logo but lacked a defined brand. I was brought in to establish clear brand guidelines and strategically grow its brand presence.
Internally we referred to this phase of the brand as the as the Particles Phase.
Brand Identity and Visual Design Language
The word “Covalent” comes from Covalent Bonds in chemistry. That’s what was captured in the original logo with the two dots.
Since we were in the Blockchain Data space, visually we decided to imagine fibre optic style cables that would connect to apps with our API’s. We created a series of visual assets that would be used in various places.
The following sections show the various assets created with this design language.
Diagrams
As a developer-focused company, we required a variety of diagrams to support our content. These diagrams were categorized into two types: marketing-driven and educational-driven. While the marketing-driven diagrams were designed to be visually engaging and attention-grabbing, the educational diagrams were more streamlined and straightforward, focusing on clarity and functionality.
